April 28-29, 2025: Our second night in Spain was in Monserrat! It has been on our bucket-list for awhile so was pumped to go! This little mountain sanctuary is just under an hour from Barcelona. The rental car upgraded us to a massive 8 seater van and Riley drove taking it up the windy mountain and managed to not have any car sickness (yay for no puking in the car!) It was such a neat place and one of our favorite locations of the trip. It turned to be quite a wild day with a massive power outage over the whole country and so we had no power during out mountain stay, which also put our room for the night jeopardy since their whole system to check in and keys to the room all didnt work without power. We missed the thrown up in the car, but it came in the middle of the night. The power was still not on, so scrambling trying to avoid stepping in throw-up, trying to get the thrower upper to a toilet and avoid stepping in was a memory for the books and a good laugh now.
The thing that stands out was the most was the morning hikes we did! The light and landscape was amazing. Riley woke up before sunrise and hiked and sumitted and called me to start hiking to headed his way and we switched and then my parents went. The clouds and sky and light as stunning, just given the time of day and sky and things it was a top 10 hike.
